Hippopotamus
A hippopotamus spends the day in the shallows with its eyes and nostrils above the surface and comes out at dusk to graze. It defends its stretch of river and runs down anything between it and the water, and it is faster on land than a person expects. Its jaws open to most of a right angle and close with enough force to break a hull plank.
