Path of the Berserker
A Barbarian path of undirected rage, with a Frenzy bonus-action attack on every turn of a Rage that costs a level of exhaustion when it ends.
Identity
The Path of the Berserker is the Barbarian path with no creed, captain, pack or faith behind the rage. Its followers are frontier wildmen who did not fit inside a barracks, dock-fighters who take tournament bouts because they cannot get a wage-card signed, and survivors of failed colonies. Of the Barbarian paths, it deals the most damage and takes the most in hit points and exhaustion in return.
Features
- L3 Frenzy
When you enter a Rage, you can choose to enter a Frenzy. For the duration of that Rage, you can make one additional melee weapon attack as a bonus action on each of your turns. When the Frenzy ends, whether the Rage ended on its own, you were knocked Unconscious or you dismissed it, you gain one level of the Exhausted condition. A Rage without a Frenzy does not impose exhaustion.
- L7 Brutal Recovery
When you finish a short or long rest, you can remove one level of the Exhausted condition. When you finish a short rest, you can also spend one Hit Die without rolling it and instead recover hit points equal to its maximum value plus your Constitution modifier.
- L11 Endless Fury
Your number of Rages no longer follows the Barbarian's Rages per long rest progression. Instead, you can Rage a number of times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus plus 1. At 20th level, Primal Champion replaces this feature.
- L15 Whirlwind Attack
Once per turn while raging, when you take the Attack action, you can replace one of its attacks with a Whirlwind: a single melee weapon attack roll made against every creature of your choice within 5 feet of you. Make one attack roll and compare it to each target's AC separately, then apply damage to each target you hit. Damage riders that apply once per turn, such as Sneak Attack, apply to only one target of your choosing. You can use Whirlwind Attack a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier per long rest (minimum 1).
- L18 Unbroken Rage Capstone
While raging, you cannot be Incapacitated, Stunned or Paralyzed. If an effect would impose any of those conditions on you, the effect is suspended for the duration of the Rage and resolves normally when the Rage ends. Levels of the Exhausted condition from Frenzy do not apply while you are raging and take effect only when your Rage ends. If the levels you have accumulated exceed the normal maximum of 6, you fall Unconscious for 1 hour when the Rage ends instead of dying.
