Stormsong Skald

A Bard College that recites the Twilight of Creation, adds storm riders to Bardic Inspiration and calls a lightning storm around the Bard.

Identity

The Stormsong Skalds are the Bard College of one story told a hundred ways: the Twilight of Creation, when the Pantheon of Primus and the Dragon Realms put down the Elementari and sealed what survived into the four elemental planes. A proper recitation requires weather, and a Stormsong performance brings its own. Skalds are frequently right about things they had no way to know, such as a name spoken in verse three days before it mattered, and the tradition says the audience claims that on the Skald's behalf.

Features

  • L3 Storm Recitation

You know the whole recitation of the Twilight of Creation. You gain proficiency in the History skill and the Lore skill if you do not already have them. When you finish a long rest, choose cold, lightning or thunder. Until your next long rest you have resistance to that damage type, and any Bard spell you cast can deal that type instead of its own. While you perform aloud, a low weather front follows you out to 20 feet: rain, wind or a static charge, obvious to anyone watching.

  • L7 Stormsong Inspiration

When you grant a Bardic Inspiration die, you can attach a storm rider, chosen when you grant it. Thunder. When the holder spends the die on a damage roll, the target is pushed 10 feet away and makes a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC, falling Prone on a failure. Frost. When the holder spends the die on any roll, one hostile creature within 30 feet of them has its speed reduced by 10 feet until the end of its next turn. Squall. The holder can instead spend the die as a reaction to gain a flying speed equal to their walking speed until the end of their next turn. Attaching a rider does not cost a second use of Bardic Inspiration.

  • L11 Spoken Omen

Once per short rest, as a bonus action, you speak a line of the recitation over a creature you can see within 60 feet and name the outcome. If the target is an ally, then for 1 minute the first time it makes an attack roll or a saving throw on each of its turns, it rolls a d6 and adds the result. If the target is an enemy, then for 1 minute the first time it makes an attack roll or a saving throw on each of its turns, it rolls a d6 and subtracts the result. A creature can be under only one omen at a time.

  • L15 Storm Front

Once per long rest, as an action, you call a storm out of the tale. For 1 minute, a 30-foot-radius storm is centered on you and moves with you. The area is lightly obscured to every creature except you and your allies, and it is difficult terrain for hostile creatures. At the start of each of your turns, you can direct one stroke at a creature in the area. It makes a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 4d8 lightning damage on a failure and half as much on a success.

  • L18 Borrowed Voice Capstone

Once per long rest, as an action, you stop choosing your words, and something older finishes the recitation for you. For 1 minute, your spell save DC increases by 2, your Bard spells of 5th level and lower cost no spell slot, and every ally within 30 feet who can hear you has advantage on saving throws and adds your Charisma modifier to their damage rolls. When the minute ends, you gain one level of the Exhausted condition, and you do not remember any of what you said.
