Way of the Lost Self
A Monk tradition that gives up fear and self-preservation: immunity to fear and charm, action at 0 hit points, Ki bought with psychic damage and a one-minute release.
Identity
The Way of the Lost Self is the Monk tradition of students who kept going past the point where the doctrine said a serene person would be waiting. The student dissolves the attachments in the prescribed order and continues past the end of the list. What remains has no ambition, no fear and no objection to dying or killing, and no capacity for cruelty, since cruelty takes an interest in the outcome. Contemplative traditions warn students about this result and produce it anyway, and the monasteries that produce one rarely admit it.
Features
- L3 Fearless
You are immune to the Frightened and Charmed conditions. When you take damage that would not reduce you to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction and spend 1 Ki to reduce that damage by your Martial Arts die plus your Wisdom modifier. You then take 1d6 psychic damage that cannot be prevented.
- L7 Fight On
You do not fall Unconscious when you drop to 0 hit points. You keep acting, and you take one automatic death saving throw failure at the start of each of your turns. You return to normal only when you are healed above 0 hit points, and the third failure kills you.
- L11 Unreadable
Creatures have disadvantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks made against you. Spells and effects that detect your alignment, thoughts or emotions return no information. You have advantage on attack rolls against any creature you have not yet attacked this combat.
- L15 Borrowed Ki
You can spend Ki you do not have, up to a number of points equal to your Wisdom modifier on a single turn. You take 1d10 psychic damage for each point spent this way. This damage cannot be reduced or prevented, and it can reduce you to 0 hit points.
- L18 Release Capstone
Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you can spend 4 Ki to drop all restraint for 1 minute. For the duration, your speed doubles, you can make one additional attack whenever you take the Attack action, you have resistance to all damage, and you cannot regain hit points. When the minute ends, you take 4d10 psychic damage that cannot be reduced or prevented.
