Fae Warden

A Ranger Archetype holding a compact with the Faewyld, with a short teleport, a reaction that spoils an attack, a damaging boundary, and a crossing between places.

Identity

The Fae Warden is the Ranger Archetype that holds the crossings between the Prime Plane and the Plane of Faewyld, which narrow over time but never close. Each Warden has a compact with a power on the other side, and the compact is about restraint: the Warden keeps the crossing honest in both directions and is lent enough of the far side's logic to do it. Unlike a Warlock, a Warden has no owner and owes no debt, and the jurisdiction they hold stays with them when they leave the border.

Features

  • L3 Faewyld Compact

You can speak Sylvan and have advantage on saving throws against being Charmed. You know the direction of the nearest crossing between the Prime Plane and the Plane of Faewyld within 1 mile of you. Once per short rest, as a bonus action, you can step half out of the world and back, teleporting up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.

  • L7 Glamour Ward

When a creature you can see within Close range is targeted by an attack, you can use your reaction to cast a glamour over that creature. The attacker makes a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, the attack misses. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

  • L11 Border Law

You can spend 1 minute marking a boundary up to 60 feet long across ground you can walk. For the next 8 hours, a creature that crosses the boundary without your permission takes 4d6 psychic damage and has its speed halved until the end of its next turn. You know when the boundary is crossed and what crossed it. You can maintain one boundary at a time.

  • L15 Fae Resilience

You have resistance to psychic damage and cannot be Charmed. When you are hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to step half out of the world. The damage is halved, and you teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this feature once per short rest.

  • L18 Fae Crossing Capstone

Once per long rest, as an action, you open a crossing 10 feet wide within Close range for 1 minute. You and any creature you permit can step through it to any point you have visited on the same world, or into the Plane of Faewyld at a crossing you know. For the duration, a hostile creature that starts its turn within 30 feet of the crossing makes a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or is Charmed by you until the start of its next turn.
