Hungering Haunter

A hungering haunter appears in a hard season on ground where people have run out of food. It stands about nine feet tall, has the skull and antlers of a deer, and reaches with human arms far too long for its body. What it leaves behind is found in spring, and there is less of it than there should be.

Traits

  • Famine

A creature that finishes a long rest within 1 mile of the haunter gains no benefit from any food it eats during that rest.

  • Snow Walker

Snow and ice are not difficult terrain for the haunter, and it leaves no tracks in either.

  • Keen Smell

The haunter has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Actions

  • Multiattack

The haunter makes two Claw attacks and one Bite attack.

  • Claws

    +7 to hit · reach 10 ft.

    2d6 + 4 slashing damage

A strike from the haunter's long arms.

  • Bite

    +7 to hit · reach 5 ft.

    2d6 + 4 piercing damage

A hit also deals 2d6 necrotic damage, and the target's hit point maximum is reduced by that amount until it finishes a long rest.

  • Gore Bonus action

    +7 to hit · reach 10 ft.

    2d10 + 4 piercing damage

The haunter can make this attack only in a turn in which it moved at least 20 feet straight toward the target. On a hit the target makes a DC 15 Strength save or is knocked Prone.
