Medusa

A medusa keeps a lit hall with a curtained approach and a long sightline. It does most of its killing with a bow before it removes its veil. Statues of earlier victims are set where a visitor who gets far enough can see them.

Traits

  • Petrifying Gaze

A creature that starts its turn within 30 feet of the medusa and can see its eyes makes a DC 14 Constitution saving throw. On a failure it is Restrained and repeats the save at the end of its next turn, becoming Petrified on a second failure. A creature that averts its eyes cannot be affected and treats the medusa as heavily obscured until the start of its next turn. If the medusa sees itself reflected within 30 feet in bright light, it makes the save itself.
