Echelon Corporation
A corporate conglomerate that rules through infrastructure ownership and debt enforcement.
The Echelon Corporation is a galaxy-spanning conglomerate whose power rests on resource extraction, transit control and contract enforcement. It holds no sovereign territory and has never needed any. Its operations concentrate around Aurelion's Belt, the asteroid field it strips for strategic materials, with the Echelon Prime and Echelon Minor systems as its administrative anchors.
Echelon formed when three interstellar enterprises consolidated during a long economic fragmentation, absorbing competitors through leveraged buyouts, debt restructuring and control of the supply chains those competitors depended on. It runs through three divisions. Black Star Energy & Extractives handles mining, drilling and fuel. Parallax Logistics handles hyperlane tolls, freight and shipyards. Axis Systems handles asset ownership, debt enforcement and long-term contractual compliance. A Board of Investors sets strategy, system directors execute it, and the Echelon Security Corps protects the holdings. Its Interdiction Teams recover debts, seize assets and remove anyone classified as a standing liability.
The corporation claims no ideology and no moral authority. It keeps its records indefinitely and rarely retaliates at once, waiting until a debtor needs a lane or a dock that Echelon owns. The Creed system runs as a semi-autonomous fiefdom under Baron Creed, a fully mechanized casino moon built from the stripped remains of its parent planet, and it serves as neutral ground for financiers, criminals, political intermediaries and corporate elites alike.
Echelon supplies the Aurelion Ascendancy under a standing alliance, trades with the Halcyion Federation, and brokers between powers that will not deal with each other directly. It contracts the Black Meridian Syndicate for transport that cannot be traced back. Few interstellar economies operate long without touching its extraction networks, its transit lanes or its enforcement.
