Prescient
A Psion Path of short-range foresight: a reaction that forces rerolls, a daily pool of foretold d20s, advantage on initiative, a one-minute Cascade and a declared first round.
Identity
The Prescient is the Psion Path that reaches a few seconds forward in time. Prescients describe it as flashes, as deja vu, as a tug at the elbow before a blade arrives, and none of them describes it as omniscience. The discipline sees only a few moves ahead. Memory-marked Psions sometimes develop it as a survival reflex, cloistered seers cultivate it on purpose, and field operators learn to hide how it feels so their marks do not notice it working.
Features
- L3 Forced Reroll
When you or an ally within 30 feet is hit by an attack, fails a saving throw or fails an ability check, you can use your reaction to change the roll. Against an attack, you impose disadvantage on the attack roll. Against a saving throw or ability check, you grant advantage on a reroll. The triggering creature must reroll using the new dice, and the new result stands even if it is worse than the original. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your spellcasting ability modifier (minimum 1) per long rest. After those uses are spent, you can spend 2 Psionic Points to use it again.
- L7 Glimpse of Outcomes
You begin each long rest by drawing a number of Glimpse dice equal to your proficiency bonus. Each Glimpse die is a d20. Roll each one and record the results in order, and these recorded results form your Glimpse pool for the day. At any point during the day, you can spend a Glimpse die to substitute its recorded value for any d20 roll made by you, an ally within 60 feet or an enemy within 60 feet, whether an attack roll, ability check or saving throw. You must declare this before any other creature has rolled, before the modifier is added and before anyone has reacted to the roll's outcome. The roll is then resolved with its normal modifiers. A spent Glimpse die is removed from the pool, and unspent Glimpse dice are lost at your next long rest.
- L11 Anticipated Move
You have advantage on initiative rolls, and you cannot be surprised while you are conscious. At the start of combat, before initiative order resolves, you can take a single bonus action on the first round. The bonus action must be Dash, Disengage, Hide or one of your Psion features that takes a bonus action. Once per short rest, when a creature within 30 feet of you takes an action, you can use your reaction to force it to declare its action again. It must choose its action and target as if it had not yet acted, and if it chooses the same action and target, it has disadvantage on the roll.
- L15 Probability Cascade
Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you enter a Cascade for 1 minute. While you are Cascading: You have advantage on all attack rolls, saving throws and ability checks. Creatures attacking you have disadvantage on their attack rolls. When you spend a Glimpse die, you can apply the same recorded value to two separate rolls instead of one, if both rolls occur in the same round. Once during the Cascade, when you would be reduced to 0 hit points, you drop to 1 hit point instead. The Cascade ends after 1 minute, when you fall Unconscious, or when you end it as a free action. When it ends, you gain one level of exhaustion, which a long rest removes as normal.
- L18 Sequence Locked Capstone
Once per long rest, as an action at the start of combat, after initiative is rolled and before the first creature acts, you declare a Sequence for the first round. Choose up to four of the following declarations: One ally of your choice acts first in the round, regardless of initiative order. One enemy you choose makes its first action with disadvantage. One ally of your choice has advantage on their first attack roll, saving throw or ability check this round. One enemy you choose cannot take reactions this round. One ally of your choice deals maximum damage with their first damaging hit this round. The Sequence resolves automatically as the round plays out. If you have not yet rolled initiative when an ambush begins, you can still declare a Sequence.
