Psion

Caster Damage

A full channeler who casts with the mind, spending Psionic Points instead of spell slots on telekinesis, telepathy, foresight and projection.

Basics

Hit die · d8
Ability · INTor CHA
Saves · INT/ WIS
Channeling · points
Rift Affinity · full-channeler

Identity

The Psion works spells from the mind alone, with no book and no oath. Psions are rare, and most Prime Plane governments treat a known one as an asset to secure or a problem to report. The Psionic Path a Psion chooses at 3rd level sets the direction the mind reaches: outward into matter, into other minds, forward in time, or out of the body.

Psionic Points pool spent at cost = spell level (cantrips free). Player chooses INT or CHA at character creation as their spellcasting ability for Spell Save DC, Spell Attack Modifier, and spells-known count. Spell save DC = 8 + proficiency bonus + chosen ability modifier.

Level Progression

  • L1
    Psionic Awakening

Choose Intelligence or Charisma as your spellcasting ability. Your spells and class DCs use that ability. You learn three cantrips and four 1st-level spells from the Psion list, plus one bonus spell of any Channel, which reflects your formative awakening and is chosen during character creation. Your pool of Psionic Points refreshes on a long rest.

    Mental Discipline

You gain proficiency in one of these skills, chosen at creation: Insight, Investigation, Perception or Persuasion. You can change this choice during a long rest spent in extended meditation.

  • L2
    Mind Step

Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use Mind Step again before your next long rest by spending 2 Psionic Points. At 11th level, the distance increases to 60 feet.

  • L3 Subclass feature
    Psionic Path

Choose a Psionic Path: Astral Projector, Mindhunter, Prescient, Reaver, Telekinetic or Telepath. Your Path grants features at 3rd, 7th, 11th, 15th and 18th level.

  • L4 ASI / Feat
  • L5
    Mind Over Matter

Once per short rest, when you fail a Strength or Dexterity saving throw, you can reroll it using your spellcasting ability modifier in place of your Strength or Dexterity modifier.

  • L6
    Steadying Thought

When you or an ally within 30 feet of you makes an Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma saving throw, you can use your reaction and spend 1 Psionic Point to add your spellcasting ability modifier to the save. You can do this after the die is rolled but before the outcome is known.

  • L7 Subclass feature
  • L8 ASI / Feat
  • L10
    Psionic Awareness Capstone

You have a passive sense out to 30 feet. You are always aware of the presence and approximate location of any creature within that radius, even through walls up to 1 foot of stone, 3 feet of wood or 1 inch of common metal. You also sense whether each creature is hostile, neutral or friendly. Total cover that blocks Rift Energy, such as lead-lined chambers, Mythar wards and certain Halcyion containment fields, blocks Psionic Awareness.

  • L11 Subclass feature
  • L12 ASI / Feat
  • L14
    Mental Fortress

You have resistance to psychic damage and advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or Frightened. An attempt to read your surface thoughts with a spell, an augment or a Rift device fails unless the source's spell save DC equals or exceeds 10 + your spellcasting ability modifier + your proficiency bonus.

  • L15 Subclass feature
  • L16 ASI / Feat
  • L17
    Mind Surge

Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you regain Psionic Points equal to half your Psion level (rounded up), up to your maximum.

  • L18 Subclass feature
  • L19 ASI / Feat
  • L20
    Mind Unbound Capstone

Once per long rest, when you cast a spell that costs Psionic Points, you can cast it at full effect without spending any. At the start of each of your turns, you regain 1 Psionic Point if you have fewer than your maximum. Your maximum Psionic Points also increase by your spellcasting ability modifier, and the increase changes whenever that modifier does.
