Soldier

A Warrior Archetype of drilled regulars, with a chosen Tactical Doctrine, damage added to an ally's melee hit, a squad rally and a command that gives allies bonus actions.

Identity

Soldiers are Warriors made on parade grounds, drilled in formation and fire discipline until the response is reflex. Standing armies turn them out, and so do corporate security details, planetary garrisons and frontier militias that meet on the eighth day and call themselves a regiment. A Soldier fights best with an ally in reach and can add 1d8 damage to that ally's melee hit.

Features

  • L3 Tactical Doctrine

Choose a combat doctrine: Phalanx (while you wield a shield, you grant adjacent allies +1 AC), Skirmish (when you Disengage as a bonus action, you can move 10 feet of your speed without provoking opportunity attacks, even from non-adjacent threats), or Suppression (when you take the Attack action and hit a target with a ranged weapon, all other creatures within 5 feet of that target have disadvantage on attack rolls until the start of your next turn). You can change your doctrine during a long rest spent in training or briefing.

  • L7 Squad Tactics

When an ally within 30 feet of you hits a creature in melee, you can use your reaction to add 1d8 damage to the ally's attack, representing your tactical call or covering fire. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier per short rest (minimum 1).

  • L11 Squad Rally

You gain proficiency in Persuasion. Once per short rest, as a bonus action, you can rally your squad: each ally within 30 feet who can hear you gains 1d8 + half your Warrior level (rounded up) temporary hit points and adds a 1d4 die to their next attack roll or saving throw made within 1 minute.

  • L15 Commanding Presence

Allies within 30 feet of you who can see or hear you have advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or Frightened. You are immune to the Frightened condition.

  • L18 Battlefield Commander Capstone

When you use Action Surge, you can forgo your additional action and instead give each ally within 30 feet of you a bonus action to take immediately, in an order you designate. The use counts against your Action Surge uses as normal.
