Channel of Metal-Rifting

Casts Iron Skin as a reaction, resists forced movement while wearing or carrying ferrous metal, strengthens constructs, delivers spells through melee hits and takes a steel aspect at 18th level.

Identity

The Channel of Metal-Rifting is the Riftcraft Tradition of the Rift's most stubborn register, the part that remembers shape. Armoryards employ its practitioners as plate-shapers, shipyards as hull-singers, and corporate security as bodyguards whose tools never leave their hands. Metal-Rifters bend ferrous metal, sharpen alloys, and animate constructs that walk where their maker walks.

Features

  • L3 Metal Training

You gain proficiency in the Investigation skill if you do not already have it. When you copy a Metal-Rifting spell into your Spellbook, the cost is halved. You can cast the Iron Skin spell as a reaction when you or an ally within 30 feet is hit by an attack, using its normal slot cost. The target gains the spell's benefits before the attack's damage is rolled. The Polish, Tug, Iron Skin, and Skewer spells are always prepared for you and do not count against your prepared spell limit.

  • L7 Magnetic Anchor

While you wear or carry at least one ferrous item (most armor, most weapons), creatures and effects that try to move you against your will, disarm you, or strip your worn gear do so with disadvantage on the relevant check or saving throw. You also have advantage on saving throws against being shoved, Restrained, or Grappled by metal constructs, manacles, or magnetic effects. As a bonus action, you can recall any ferrous item you have wielded within the last hour to your hand, provided it is within 60 feet of you.

  • L11 Hardened Constructs

Constructs you summon, animate, or assemble with Metal-Rifting spells (including Automaton and Servo) have advantage on attack rolls, a +1 bonus to AC, and resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that is not specifically anti-construct or anti-armor while they are within 60 feet of you. When one of your constructs is reduced to 0 hit points within 30 feet of you, you can use your reaction and expend a spell slot of 2nd level or higher to restore it to half its hit point maximum. You can do this once between long rests.

  • L15 Weapon Casting

You can cast Metal-Rifting spells through any ferrous item you wield or wear as if it were a casting focus. You can also deliver any Metal-Rifting spell that targets a creature as part of a melee weapon attack made with a ferrous weapon, using the same action for both. On a hit, the target takes the weapon's damage and is subjected to the spell. On a miss, the spell slot is not expended. Your worn ferrous armor counts as one tier higher than its base for overcoming damage resistance from attacks made against you.

  • L18 Steel Aspect Capstone

Once per long rest, you can use a bonus action to assume an aspect of living steel for 1 minute. When the aspect begins, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Wizard level + your Intelligence modifier, which do not stack with other sources. While in the aspect, your AC increases by 2 (any source), and you cannot be disarmed, shoved, Grappled, or Restrained by nonmagical means. As part of the same bonus action that begins the aspect, you can summon an Automaton ally for the aspect's duration without expending a spell slot. The aspect ends early if you are reduced to 0 hit points.
