Crawling Hand
The hand is taken at the right hour, pressed and dried with saltpeter, and its fingers are set burning. While it burns, every sleeper in the house stays asleep and no door stays locked. Water and smothering do not put out the flame. Only milk does, and old houses kept a jug on the landing.

Thieves' Candle
While its fingers are lit, every sleeping creature within 60 feet cannot be woken by anything short of damage, and every lock within 5 feet opens at a touch.
-
Milk Weakness
The flame is unaffected by water, smothering or cold. A pint of milk poured over it extinguishes it, ending both of the above until it is relit.
