Homunculus
A homunculus is grown in a sealed vessel kept at the warmth of a dung heap for forty days, then given human blood at the same heat for forty weeks. The result is a transparent creature the length of a hand that knows its maker. It is obedient and fragile, and it is aware of having been made.
