City
An ecumenopolis: a habitable planet whose surface is continuously built on. Levels stack for kilometers, the lowest have not seen the sky in centuries, and the whole structure depends on freight from off-world. Every faction with a capital has one, and the Covenant of the Ebon Creed makes Sanctum Worlds out of them.

The map is a transit map and is out of date below the twentieth level. Foraging means buying from a market, and every market has an owner.
In play
-
Vertical
Distance is measured in levels as much as in miles. Movement between levels needs a lift, a shaft or a permit, and the lifts and shafts are often owned.
-
Imports
Air, water and food all arrive from off-world. A blockade is a siege, and the number of days the city can hold out is public knowledge.
-
No wilderness
All ground on a City world is owned. Every encounter falls under a jurisdiction, and the jurisdiction is often the main obstacle.
Regions on it
- Farmland Cultivated and grazed land with the roads between it, all of it owned.
- Lower Atmosphere The layer of a world's atmosphere where weather occurs: breathable, turbulent and home to flying creatures and vessels.
- Near Space The last of the atmosphere, thin enough to count as vacuum for every purpose except drag.
- Settlement Built ground, lived in or abandoned: close quarters, hard cover, and a jurisdiction attached to every encounter.
- Subterranean Everything under the surface, with no light, no weather, and a route set by what the rock allows.
